The new urban planning of the old Cardinal Brewery’s site is defined by three major components: The geometry of the curved train tracks, the heavy noise pollution and the subsequent need to provide quiet outer spaces.
The composition of the building volumes is defined by the train tracks to the south and Quellenstrasse to the north. The space allocation programme is split between two buildings, which in turn are connected by a public square. This square enables visual perspectives with the surrounding suburb and connects it with the nearby train station.
The development reacts subtly to its surroundings: To the east it reflects the fragment of urban block structure while to the north its open courtyards mirror the open structure of Quellenstrasse.
