About the Open Work by Umberto Eco:
'The "open" work is not unequivocal, it is ambiguous. It is not finished when the artist passes it on to the addressee. The work elicits the addressee to choose and newly decode meaning. Only through reception is the artist's work completed.'The new building volume fits precisely within the spatial fabric of the Dreispitz areal, which in the future will feature a much more urban character as a result of current urban planning measures for the northern tip of Dreispitz and for Walkeweg. The main orientation of the new School of Business is towards Bordeaux Square. In essence the building is conceived as a non-hierarchical platform for teaching and research. On this basis, the connecting and not the separating-hierarchical nature is highlighted, which is initially evident in the spatial disposition. At the heart of the ECONOMARIUM® is the light-flooded hall, which has been developed over four storeys and runs through all classroom floors. This hall creates transparency on all levels and is conceived as an urban boulevard. Here the public of the School of Business can meet with students, docents, and researchers; here an exchange of knowledge can happen; and, here is the place for informal occasions. Connected via a terrace on each floor on both sides, which in turn are accessible across the floors, the hall is the heart of the building. With fixed workstations located at the façades, the life of students at a university is manifest here in an exemplary way.
