The arrow-shaped, tapered footprint of the building is a precise response to the triangular form that defines many plots in the Dreispitz compound. The playfully reduced gable end of the neighboring building known as the Chillespitz [in Swiss German, Chillespitz = church spire] with a distinctive gable roof forms the vis-à-vis to the entrance in the "prow" of the new building, and can be specifically adapted to different exhibitions. As a raw, massive concrete structure with a pergola-like, projecting canopy, the Kunsthalle manifests its public character towards the outside and is distinguishable from the surrounding logistics buildings. The incorporation of the existing plinth carries on the history of the former warehouse with its platform for deliveries and mediates from the entrance plaza to the street level as a sloped surface. The interior partitioning is captivating with its radical simplicity in relation to varying spatial proportions and moods created through lighting. Materialized in a robust and economic way, the interior conveys the atmosphere of a workshop-like Kunsthalle.
