Anonymous Project Submittal in a Competition by Invitation
Client: SEG Siedlungsgenossenschaft Eigengrund
Competition: 2014

Developed according to a logic addressing orientation and noise protection, ground plans for three of the building volumes group multiple units around semi-public and semi-private access areas to the south towards Obsthaldenstrasse, i.e., facing away from busy Wehntalerstrasse to the north. A fourth volume, serpentine in form with five wings, is not only integrated into the slope but wraps around to create a semi-protected inner landscape. For the realization of the volume inserted into the slope, the single building plot format of the surrounding urban context was not adopted, but rather borrowing from the school complex to the east, a continuous overall form was created. Extending throughout the entire width of the respective wing, these apartments are lit from two sides and benefit from their clear placement within the surrounding urban context with views onto the immediate outdoor environment and in the distance.
In addition to these design features, the competition entry also fulfilled the main program elements required by the client, which included: 180 apartments, kindergarten, child daycare center, trade workshops, gas station with shop, and local store on private property.
